While living in Havana for three months at the beginning of 2023, I spent countless hours wandering the streets of the historic city. I loved photographing buildings with exquisite yet deteriorated Neoclassical and Art Deco facades, but I simultaneously began to notice the intricate tilework that covers the sidewalk entrances, lobbies, and hallways of these old buildings. Just like the buildings, the tiles are extremely weathered, with gaps and missing pieces, sometimes in ruins. But they are also still there. Hundreds and hundreds of them. Adding another layer to the city's great heritage.
